Kevin Godley;

As a group, we went to see a talk held by Kevin Godley, this was a great opportunity to expand our knowledge on music videos.

Luke Stevens- I thought Kevin Godley was a very impressive director, he broke the mould of conventional music videos when he was in his prime. He had many innovative ideas and inspirational beliefs. Kevin Godley showed many videos by bands such as U2 and his own band, some of his ideas were very strange and sometimes very simple. He also talked about how he came up with some of his ideas which was very interesting. In conclusion, I think Godley has had a very interesting career and I can relate some of our ideas to his.

Sarah Groves- When Kevin Godley showed us examples of different music videos that he had directed he explained the different techniques he used and what stimulus triggered the inspiration for each of the music videos. He explained how you can expand a simple idea and turn it into something that captures the interest of the audience. He showed us one video that was choreography based where he had been put out of his comfort zone and had been able to explore something that he hadn't explored before.

Sophie Pritchard - From attending kevin Godley's masterclass I have learnt that the most successful way of producing a music video is by being original, do something that hasn't previously been done before, make something unusual, innovative, something from the heart and make it exciting for the audience. This is what Kevin Godley advised to us as students which my group is all going to take on board. I personally enjoyed when he talked about the music videos he has created and also talking about his early life within his career. Overall it was very interesting and helpful.
